Our story
Where Koalu
Began.

guling
A long, cylindrical pillow, traditionally hugged while sleeping.
Trevor & Farrell · Co-founders
We grew up in Indonesia with a guling - a long, cylindrical pillow you hug while you sleep.
It was such an essential and ordinary part of our nights that we never thought to explain it. When we moved to the U.S., we realized many people had never heard of one. That’s why we started Koalu: to share a tradition we’ve loved all our lives and reimagine it for the way people sleep today.
Our roots are Indonesian, and the guling is where our story begins.
Our approach
So, we created Koalu.
We weren’t trying to bring the guling into modern bedrooms unchanged.
We wanted to keep what made it comforting, and rethink everything else: the fill, the firmness options, the covers, the construction and shape, even the aesthetic.
The hug stayed exactly the same.

The Cozy Consensus
Don't just take our word for it. See what our sleepers say.
“What I loved most about Koalu was having a natural place to rest my arms and hands throughout the night, rather than keeping them bent in awkward positions. After trying it, there isn’t anything I would change about the product.”
